The Mission of Peking and the Vincentians

Abstract
An English translation of a major work, published in 1939, on missionary work in Peking (Beijing), from the beginning of the presence of the Vincentians, brought in to succeed the Jesuits, until 1935. The illustrations of the original have been included. The work, based on original documents, includes several lists of persons and places. The Vincentian missionaries were sent from Portugal and then from France. Included among the French were missionaries from the Netherlands, Italy, The role of Chinese priests alongside their European confreres is also highlighted. An important period was the Boxer insurrection, recounted by eye-witnesses.
