An English translation of books 3 and 4 of Planchet's History of the Peking Mission, dealing primarily with the members of the Congregation of the Mission (Lazarists/Vincentians). Book 3 presents the history of this mission from the division of the diocese of Peking to the death of Bishop Mouly (1856-1869). Book 4 concludes with the Boxer Rebellion, covering the years 1870 to 1900. The accounts cover the light and darkness of these years, with the growth of the Catholic Church in China and the many persecutions it underwent. Official names and statistics from 1922 conclude the work.
