Abstract
François-Alexis Rameaux (1802-1845), a member of the Congregation of the Mission, the Vincentians, was born in France. As a Vincentian, he worked in education, and then was assigned to the China mission, embarking in 1831. A difficult and exhausting mission, he was appointed bishop in 1838 as apostolic vicar. His territory began to flourish despite overt persecution of Christians. After ordaining as bishop Fr. Bernard-Vincent Laribe, his confrere, he went to Macao. While swimming one evening, he suffered a fatal stroke. The anonymous author of this Note concludes by describing his steadiness, simplicity, humility, meekness, mortification, charity and zeal.
