Rosati, Missouri was originally named Knobview. Since other nearby places had “knob” in their names, this caused problems with mail. Italians had settled the area and they wanted to change the name to an Italian one. Rosati was adopted in 1931 to honor Joseph Rosati, a nineteenth-century bishop of Saint Louis. In Fascist Italy, the hamlet was inflated to an important city, and the name change was heralded by radio in Rome and by the national newspapers. Italian interest continued into at least the 1950s.
