Abstract

Rarely does one have the opportunity to review a magisterial work. However, in the case of Gail Hollander’s book, I would be hard-pressed not to conclude that it represents a singularly outstanding effort, both in terms of scholarship and writing. Hollander, an Associate Professor of Geography in the Department of International Relations at Florida International University, has produced an interdisciplinary study that merges important themes not only from her core discipline, but also those typically reserved for historians, economists, and sociologists. Consequently, focused insights abound concerning Florida, the United States, the Caribbean, and the world.
