Abstract

In recent years there has been a notable increase in suicide rate in many countries, including Ireland, where this trend has been particularly evident among young men, giving rise to concern about how best to understand and respond to this group. Ironically, despite their prominent role in providing care to the suicidal person, many mental health professionals are ill-prepared to work with this population due to lack of training.
