Abstract
Their presentation, “O’Farrell’s Cabin – the oldest building in Boise, Idaho: A son of Tyrone’s role in settling a part of the Pacific Northwest,” discussed not only John O’Farrell, but the role of the Irish in Idaho mining.
Between 1863 and 1872 more than 1.7 million ounces of gold were produced in Boise County. The Irish were the single largest ethnic group to work in the extraction of this gold. They were specifically active in mining communities such as Idaho City and Silver City, in Owyhee County.
