About John Tann, MD

Dr. John F. Tann is a board certified general surgeon and fellowship trained bariatric surgeon specializing in weight loss surgery, practicing at Bariatric and Metabolic Specialists in Overland Park, KS and Kansas City, MO. He has also specialized in complex abdominal wall reconstruction, advanced foregut and reflux surgery. Dr. Tann serves as core faculty for the General Surgery Residency at Menorah Medical Center and faculty for the Bariatric Fellowship. He completed his surgical residency at the University of Missouri where he held the position of Administrative Chief Resident of General Surgery. Prior to attending medical school at the University of Kansas, he was an instructor in the department of Biology, Human Anatomy and Physiology at Kansas State University. Dr. Tann holds memberships to the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons. He is actively involved in academic research, presenting at national meetings and mentoring residents through the research and publication process.

Dr. Tann has been involved in education and advanced technology since the beginning of his training. Before starting his practice he has held faculty positions in undergraduate, medical school and surgical residency training programs. Dr. Tann has also published and presented several papers on the utilization of advanced technology in surgery and improving patient outcomes. His latest research is the evaluation and management of bariatric surgery and transplant patients. The importance of his fellowship training in advanced robotic bariatric surgery, both primary and revisional surgery, has helped transition Dr. Tann's practice at one of the busiest robotic bariatric surgery centers in the country. The advanced robotic training as also been utilized in progressing other areas of his practice and procedures to improve patient outcomes.
