Abstract

Hydrogen-fueled buses are scheduled to run between Fort Leonard Wood in the nearby towns of St. Robert and Rolla. The shuttle buses are equipped with hydrogen-fueled internal combustion engines (ICE), they do not use gasoline, and have a range of 150-mi on a full tank of hydrogen and produce no emissions. The bus service is is intended to demonstrate hydrogen-powered vehicles within the Department of Defense (DoD), and is a part of a congressionally funded project that oriented with the US Department of Transportation as a proposed rural test bed to deal with the technical, safety, and public perception issues of implementing a new fuel infrastructure. Hydrogen fuel for the buses are provided by an Air Products Mobile Hydrogen Fueler located at the Missouri S&T's Rolla campus and there are plans to install a semi-permanent refueling station after granting of permissions.
