About John Luke Gallup

John Gallup is a Professor of Economics at Portland State University and The Director of the Graduate Program. John joined Portland State in 2009. He earned his B.A. in Economics and Political Science at Swarthmore College, his M.A. in Demography at the University of California Berkley, and his Ph. D. in Economics at the University of California Berkley. John has been a consultant for the World Bank, United Nations Development Program, International Labor Office, USAID, and Government of Vietnam of Bolivia.

John's teaching fields are Economics using Stata, Economic Development, Labor Economics and Growth theory. Current research interests include, Geography in Economic Development (Problems of Tropical and Landlocked Regions), Determinants of Income Distribution and Labor Markets and Rural Poverty in Vietnam. John is fluent in Vietnamese, French and Spanish.
