Abstract

We describe unusual forms of graphite crystals in anorthosites from the Korsun-Novomigorod pluton in Ukraine. A complete series of crystal morphologies exists, from tabular, to coumnar, to psuedodipyramidal and pseudodipyramidal-prismatic, to nearly spherical. On the basis of our morphological observations, we present a possible mechanism of growth based on spiral-layer and polycentric growth in the presence of negative wedge disclinations.
