Professor
John A. Carpente, PhD, MT-BC, LCAT is a Professor of Music Therapy at Molloy College, Founder and Director of the Rebecca Center for Music Therapy at Molloy College and Founding Director of the Center for Autism & Child Development and is a founding member of the International Music Therapy Assessment Consortium. He is the creator of the Developmental Relationship-based Music Therapy Model and has over er 20 years of clinical, supervisory and research experience. His research explores various aspects of clinical assessment as well as social emotional learning, development, and processing. He authored the internationally utilized assessment tool: Individual Music-Centered Assessment Profile for Neurodevelopmental Disorders: A Clinical Manual and has published numerous book chapters and peer reviewed research articles on improvisational music therapy for children with ASD. He has presented his work domestically and internationally and is frequently invited to guest lecture at various universities and symposia in the U.S., Europe, and South America. Dr. Carpente received his Master of Arts degree from the Steinhart School of Education at New York University where he also completed post-graduated advanced certification training, Levels 1 & 2, in Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy. He completed his Ph.D. from Temple University where he received several research and clinical practice awards for innovation and contributions to the field of music therapy. and is also recognized for as an Expert DIRFloortime Practitioner and trainer by the Interdisciplinary Council for Development & Learning.
