Lappland 1949 Fieldnotes with photos

Abstract
These fieldnotes are from a personal unplanned trip to Northern Sweden and were followed up by a
written survey written in my senior year at the University of Michagin, at Ann Arbor. These fieldnotes
focus on my first, but brief, excursion into a non‐western culture and are presented as my impressions
not as professional fieldnotes but as notes at a beginning of a career an I have included some
contemporary editing (2019) here but I have left in place my orientation of a 20 year old in 1949. The
term Lapp is no longer used rather Saami. I wish to declare that over 70 years since these notes where
first written some parts have been lost.
