About Joseph M. Valenzano III

Joe Valenzano brings expertise in rhetoric, religious discourse, and instructional communication to the department. He serves as the department’s basic course director and regularly teaches a graduate course on instructional communication.

Valenzano joined UD having already served for five years as a basic course director, where his program was awarded a Basic Course Program of Excellence by the National Communication Association. He has been a reviewer for numerous books, an editor for a custom textbook project, and a focus group member for textbook development. He also has been a manuscript reviewer for numerous journals, including the Journal of Media and Religion, the Southern Journal of Communication, and the Basic Communication Course Annual. His research has been recognized with a top-paper award from the National Communication Association.
