About Jody Allen

As director of the W&M’s Lemon Project, Professor Allen has delivered presentations at many institutions and academic organizations, including the University of Virginia, the University of the South at Sewanee, and the Organization of American Historians Annual Meeting. She has also been interviewed by NPR, The Atlantic, and the Chronicle of Higher Education. At William & Mary, Professor Allen has taught courses on the History of the African American Family, the Education of African-Americans in Virginia, and the Women of the Civil Right
Movement. She has published articles in ASALH History News and The Public Historian. Professor Allen is also a consultant with Slade
Associates, LLC and she has facilitated teacher training workshops for the U.S. Department of Education.
