Evolution of British Police Training: From the Notebooks of 20th-Century Recruits

Abstract
The aim of this paper is to explore the training of British police recruits as it evolved in content and focus throughout the 20th century. This research is based on handwritten police notebooks ranging from 1900 to the 1960s, as well as course syllabi and pamphlets for police candidates and probationaries from 1871 through the 1990s.
