About Joanna Bankier

My earliest books, THE OTHER VOICE, Norton, 1975 and WOMEN POETS OF THE WORLD, Macmillan, 1982, were collaborative projects, women and minorities experiencing a radical break in their expectations; women speaking, individually and collectively, from a subject position. In a later publication, NYHETENS OBEHAG (Newness and Its Discontent), published in 2003 in Sweden, alternative perspectives on language, culture, and national identity are explored. During the intervening years, my work has ranged over the related fields of women's studies, translation studies, and Jewish studies, while remaining anchored in a contemporary theoretical perspectives.
