Please Take Candy From Librarians: Cheap and Easy Approaches to Data Gathering with College StudentsLibrary Marketing and Communications Conference (2017)
Market research can seem overwhelming, especially if you’re working solo or have a limited budget. This session presents several approaches one academic library used over the course of a year to gather data from students. During six different listening sessions, we experimented with varying promotions, target audiences, and menus to attract the most students. We used different facilitation styles and session formats (including focus groups and individual surveys) to gather information. Over the year, students shared their experiences with the library, technology, social media, and research. We incorporated this data into our library’s marketing efforts and strategic plan, and we did it all on a budget. Learn about which approaches were the most effective—and which were not. This presentation includes questionnaires you can adapt along with budget information, scheduling tips, menu ideas, and promotion templates.
