About John McLaren

John has had over 15 years of practical legal experience in private practice in commercial law and taxation law. He had a period of employment with the ANZ bank and with accounting firms engaged in financial planning. John commenced his academic career with RMIT University in the School of Accounting and Law, followed by a period as a senior lecturer with the CQ University in Rockhampton. This was followed by three years in the Faculty of Law and the University of Canberra where he taught a range of taxation law subjects to both accounting and law students.
John's research interests lie in Taxation reform based on the ‘Henry Tax Review’, in particular land tax and resource rent taxes. He is also interested in the Australia-China investment relationship and the tax implications flowing from the relationship.
