The broad problem domain of Ji Yeong (Joann) I’s research agenda embraces the search for an effective mathematical pedagogy for culturally and linguistically diverse learners, especially English language learners (ELLs). Her current research interests focus on preparing teachers to support ELLs and investigating teacher beliefs towards culturally diverse students in learning mathematics. Joann has collaborated with many researchers in various research projects, including a National Science Foundation funded research project, and the work has been published in scholarly journals such as Teaching for Excellence and Equity in Mathematics, Teachers and Teaching: Theory and Practice, ZDM - The International Journal on Mathematics Education, and Teaching Children Mathematics. In addition, she presented at national and international conferences, including Annual Meeting of National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and International Congress on Mathematical Education. Joann currently teaches a secondary mathematics methods course and graduate courses in mathematics education. Before she found her passion in research of mathematics education, she taught mathematics and science at middle and high schools in California. Outside of work, she enjoys jigsaw puzzle and plays the piano.
