My Experience of Supervision with W.R.D. Fairbairn
The Clinical Supervisor (1992)
  • James C. Raines, Loyola University Chicago
Abstract
This paper is a fictional account of supervision with the late, Scottish psychoanalyst, W.R.D. Fairbairn. It systematically reviews each of his major theoretical works and seeks to apply his objection-relations theory of the personality to an actual, current case of the author. Through a careful blend of historical detail, primary source material, and a contemporary case, it hopes to enable the reader to experience what supervision may have been like with Fairbairn and to demonstrate the relevance of Fairbairn's theories to modern clinical practice.
