Abstract
The marginal status of contingent faculty members does not have to be a source of loneliness and dissatisfaction; through collaboration, contingent faculty members can find publication opportunities and the means of self-empowerment. This is the story of how four contingent faculty began collaborating to improve their individual teaching, and along the way found the necessary support and motivation to expand beyond their day-to-day teaching into the realms of research and publishing. The authors' efforts resulted in a large professional development grant, numerous conference presentations, and published articles.
