About Jill Goodman Gould

Dr. Jill Goodman Gould, Senior Lecturer in the Department of English, has taught at Santa Clara University since 1986. She received her B.A. and M.A. in English, and her Ph.D. in American Literature and English Renaissance Drama from the University of Oregon.
Before coming to Santa Clara, Dr. Goodman taught American literature on a Fulbright grant for two years at Marie Curie Sklodowska University in Lublin, Poland, where she became interested in Central European and Jewish literature. Her research interests include composition and creative nonfiction – particularly life writing and travel writing, as well as Jewish literature, including memoir and drama, especially related to the Holocaust. During the 2004-05 academic year, she received another Fulbright grant to teach in Poland and do research on the memory of the Holocaust.
Dr. Goodman has been involved for many years with S.C.U. International Programs, teaching four summers in the Durham, England, program, and one semester in the London FIE program. She advises and teaches workshops for students about to study abroad. In the English Department, she advises students who plan to teach high school English. Related to an ongoing Arrupe project teaching at Downtown College Preparatory High School, she and several students created the Chelsea Literary Society, a women's book group that gives university students the opportunity to mentor and learn from local first-generation high school students.
