I have worked in the behavioral health field for 42 years. I have a Ph.D. in psychology from Northcentral University, a M.S.S.A (social work) from Case Western Reserve University, a M.P.A. (Masters in Public Administration) from Kent State University. and a B.A. in English from the University of Pittsburgh.  I'm a LISW-S and LICDC-CS. I started my career as a clinical social worker in mental health and eventually became a clinical director at a family service agency followed by a position of Executive Director at Family Solutions, a family counseling agency that is now part of Child Guidance & Family Solutions.

I'm in my 19th year of teaching full-time at The University of Akron and prior to that taught part-time here, at Kent State, and CWRU as adjunct instructor. I teach in the School of Social Work where I coordinate addiction services and the CBT initiative. I previously taught in the Community Services program in Summit College where I was responsible for the addictions services programs.  In addition to teaching, I worked for several years as a Research Associate with the Institute for Health and Social Policy at the University. While there I conducted evaluations of the juvenile drug court, the adolescent TASC program and an adolescent therapeutic community for boys. I worked on research projects with women in jail and with older adults.
