Abstract
This study investigated the effect of instructional versus free play on stereotypic behaviors (SBs). Participants were two 8-year-old boys with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) who exhibited severe SBs. A free play served as the baseline and instruction served as the intervention. Two types of activities (gymnasium and pool) were alternatively presented to participants to identify trends in SBs between free play and instruction. The results demonstrated that compared to free play, instruction decreased SBs in both the gym and pool.
