Abstract

The three innovative papers in this symposium focus on individual well-being in the context of couple relationships. Together, they underline the significance of capturing complex dynamics linking couples’ relationship quality and well-being from early adulthood to middle and later life. In particular, these papers examine the financial wellbeing of young adults, the psychological well-being of midlife couples, and physical wellbeing in later life, utilizing longitudinal data to examine change over time and state-of-the-art data analysis techniques. This symposium will stimulate nuanced conversations regarding links between couple relationships and individual well-being and help move the literature on individual wellbeing towards greater consideration of interpersonal, transactional, and family systemic perspectives.
