About Jesus Ernesto Ortiz-Diaz

Ernesto Ortiz-Diaz teaches Portuguese classes and classes on Latin America, focusing on Brazil. His interests include cartography, Brazilian and Latin American music, history, opera, mythology, and dead languages (especially Latin.) Originally from Monclova, Mexico, he earned his BA in Spanish from the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey in 2002 and his MA in Spanish from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 2005. He received his PhD in 2011 in Latin American Literatures and Cultures, Designated Emphasis in Classics and Classical Receptions from the University of California, Davis, where he is completed his dissertation, The Portrait of Nature in Latin American Literature: From Aesthetic Idealization to the Critical Landscapein June 2011.
Ortiz-Diaz has been teaching at Macalester since 2011.
