Hyperallergic (2018)
  • Jesse Locker, Portland State University
Abstract
News article by Jesse Locker examining the purchase of a self-portrait painted by Artemisia Gentileschi. Locker discusses the resemblance of the painting to the artist's St. Catherine of Alexandria (1615–17) in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, and makes the point that understanding the painting relies on understanding the world of Florence in the early 17th century.
