About Jerry Banks, MD, FAAFP

Dr. Banks began his medical career at the age of 3, when he watched Marcus Welby, Family Doctor regularly on his grandmother’s black and white television. While the quality of his stethoscope and reflex hammer have improved from the plastic versions in his first Doctor’s Kit, his passion for Family Medicine has remained strong.
Dr. Banks graduated from Wake Forest University before attending medical school at East Carolina University School of Medicine (now Brody School of Medicine), where he also completed his residency in Family Medicine. In his career, he has practiced full-spectrum rural family medicine, outpatient and urgent care medicine, as well as academic medicine. He is a former Assistant Editor for The Journal of Family Practice, and he has published in American Family Physician as well as The Journal of Family Practice, and he has co-authored an evidence-based parenting book. His clinical interests include pediatric and adolescent medicine, child maltreatment, physician-patient communication and medical humanities.
He is married and has three children. Most of his free time is spent traveling to his son’s soccer matches.
