About Jenny Julén Votinius

I am an Associate Professor in private law, working as a researcher and teacher at the Faculty of Law, Lund University. My research primarily belongs to the area of Swedish and EU labour law, but it also deals with questions within the field of social security law.
I conduct research mainly within three fields: on discrimination and equality in labour law, with a special focus the reconciliation of working life and family life; on questions related to the importance of qualifications and competence, especially the question of how the demands of working life on social skills and interpersonal skills of workers impact on labour law; and on the protection of employment rights, with a special focus on precarious employees. In my research I apply an interdisciplinary approach to legal dogmatics, in that I integrate perspectives from social science and political philosophy in the legal analysis. My research is much inspired by critical legal theory and feminist legal theory. I have experience of international research co-operation, and have published in monographic form, as well as in anthologies and international and national journals.
I teach labour law and feminist legal theory at different levels at the law study programme, especially at the courses Private Law, The Social Dimension and Individual Labour Law. I also supervise students writing their graduate thesis in labour law. I am Director of Study for doctoral education at the Faculty of Law, and head of the Faculty’s mandatory Research School for doctoral students. I am an elected member of the Faculty’s Research Committee, and also an elected member of the Faculty’s Committee for Gender Equality and Equal Treatment. I am assistant supervisor for Andrea Iossa, doctoral student in labour law.
