Abstract
The Office of Mission & Catholic Identity, the College of Arts and Sciences and the Human Journey Colloquia Series present Heart Challenges Hate: A Discussion Series during the spring 2019 semester. The first in the series, “The First Amendment and Hate,” will take place on Wednesday, March 27, at 7 p.m. in the Martire Center Theater (E-145), 5401 Park Avenue, Fairfield. Featured speakers will include Jennifer McLaughlin, M.A., instructor of history, and Gary Rose, Ph.D., chair of the Department of Government. Sacred Heart University is responding to the troubling environment of hate and violence that is so prevalent in the United States—and the world—today with a series of discussions that will allow for reasoned and civil discourse. Speakers and panelists will discuss everything from the psychology and rhetoric of hate to the first amendment and whether religion is a contributor to or remedy for the issues we face. These events will be interactive and free of charge, and the public is welcome to join in the discussion. Free and open to the public.
