Proposal for Presentation

The School of Communication Sciences and Disorders' mission is to cultivate competent professionals who will positively impact and engage the global community in a Christ-centered learning environment. As a program on the campus of one of the most diverse institutions in the United States, SCSD is committed to making the profession more diverse, hence meeting the local and national communities' needs. It is often difficult for students who have not experienced academic rigor to find academic success in higher education compared to their peers. This initiative utilized peer-assisted learning, a process of gaining understanding and skills from students who are either at different or equivalent academic or experiential levels in order to assist students who struggled to gain admittance to graduate programs through traditional quantitative methods. The presentation will provide an overview of the development and implementation of the Peer Assisted Learning (Readiness and Resiliency Program) as well as initial qualitative data from the participating peer groups.
