Assistant Professor of Nursing
I received my BSN from the School of Nursing at Harding, then began working at Memorial Hospital in North Little Rock, AR, on a cardiac stepdown/medical-surgical floor. After a few years of bedside nursing and gaining a tremendous amount of experience, I joined the faculty of the Baptist Schools of Nursing in Little Rock. While there I received certification as a CPR instructor for the American Heart Association ( prior to that I served as a CPR instructor for the American Red Cross.) and thus began a life-long quest of helping as many people as possible learn the life-saving techniques of CPR, in my spare time.
In 1995 I joined the faculty of the Harding School of Nursing, now known as the Carr College of Nursing. My primary areas of teaching are in the fundamentals of nursing (theory and skills), health assessment, and research in nursing. I love working with beginning students and helping build that essential foundation of knowledge and skills, upon which they will build and expand throughout the program. It is amazing and rewarding to see the growth in students when I have them again as seniors in the research course.
Working for The Lord in mission efforts has been a significant part of my life since my college days of participating in International Campaigns with the College Church. I also served as a mission intern in both The Netherlands and Belgium. Myself and my family have participated in short term missions in Russia, China, Japan, Thailand, Hungary, South Africa, and Guatemala, as well as in Massachusetts. It is exciting to see what The Lord has planned for the future.
My research interests include: Humor and its effect on the learner's retention of content; Compassion Fatigue among healthcare workers; CPR and effective teaching techniques.
