Jay Gopalakrishnan is a numerical analyst and a computational scientist with interest in various technological applications. He taught at the Department of Mathematics of University of Florida for more than a decade, but has recently moved to Portland State University, where he now serves as a Professor of Mathematics and holds their Maseeh Distinguished Chair in Mathematical Sciences. His research interests center around the design of numerical methods for partial differential equations and their rapid solution by iterative techniques and he has published over fifty papers. They include contributions to multigrid solvers and discontinuous Galerkin methods. He co-invented two classes of numerical methods, now known as HDG methods and DPG methods.
