About Javad Barouei

Javad Barouei is an Associate Professor in the Department of Agriculture, Nutrition, and Human Ecology at Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU), Prairie View, USA. He received his BSc from Ferdowsi University and MSc from Shiraz University in Food Science and Technology. Javad carried out his PhD at the University of Newcastle, Australia in Prof Deborah Hodgson’s lab researching the effect of perinatal maternal probiotic ingestion on offspring gut, immune and neuroendocrine responses in a rat model of Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Subsequently, he joined the Department of Food Science and Technology at the University of California, Davis as a postdoctoral researcher in the laboratories of Prof Maria Marco and Prof Linda Harris where he assessed the effects of dietary resistant starch and lactobacillus on the gut and systemic health in obese mice, and conducted quantitative microbial risk assessment for California nut industry, respectively. He then worked as a research scientist in the Cooperative Agricultural Research Center at PVAMU where he initiated his microbiology/microbiome lab. In Fall 2020 he joined the Department of Agriculture, Nutrition, and Human Ecology at PVAMU as an Associate Professor.
