About Janet E Richmond PhD

I completed my undergraduate degree, honours and Master’s degrees in South Africa. My professional career started in a military hospital in South Africa for 5 years, where I provided clinical services in all areas of rehabilitation for veterans, serving military staff and their families. Since then I have worked mainly with children. This included working in South African special schools for children with hearing impairments and other learning difficulties. I conducted a private practice in South Africa with a focus on all paediatric diagnoses. I came to Australia in 2004 and worked as an Occupational Therapy Manager at the Central Gippsland Health Service, Victoria where I provided rehabilitation services to people across the lifespan. In 2007, I began lecturing at Edith Cowan University, completed my PhD in 2010 and continue to research as an interest and as part of my job description. My current clinical and research interests are in paediatrics with a particular focus on visual perception, learning difficulties, visual motor integration, developmental delay and sensory integration, scooter use (motorised mobility aids), disability and aging.
