Abstract

Materials and methods for a controlled experiment using multifilament stainless steel wire in five Shetland ponies are described. The suture pattern used is illustrated. Results from the experiment are presented following necropsy at 4 months after surgery. Considerations in choosing suture materials in abdominal surgery in horses are discussed and responses to sutures are presented in tabular form.
