This is the first complete English translation of the early thirteenth-century compilation of Finian stories and poetry, generally referred to as The Colloquy of the Ancients, best known from Standish Hayes O'Grady's edition and translation in Silva Gadelica (London, 1892), Whitley Stoke's edition in Irische Texte (Leipzig, 1900), and Nessa Ní Shéaghdha edition of a later recension (Dublin, 1942-1945. Ann Dooley, of the Celtic Studies Programme and Centre for Medieval Studies at the University of Toronto, and Harry Roe, recently retired from the Centre for Medieval Studies and the Centre for Religious Studies at the same university, have together produced an eminently readable translation of the work, 'the longest original literary text in medieval Irish literature'.
