The violence of the recent marching season in Belfast, Derry and throughout Northern Ireland brings to the fore once again the seemingly irreconcilable differences between Protestants and Catholics, Loyalists and Republicans, Orangemen and Hibernians. What factors—political, ideological, ethnic and religious—have led to these conflicts, and how may they ever be resolved?
