About Jacklyn Sanders

Jacklyn Sanders is a Lecturer I in the College of Agriculture and Human Sciences at Prairie View A & M University, prior to which she completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Arkansas in Pine Bluff, AR, her Dietetic Internship Program and Master of Science degree in Human Sciences from Stephen F. Austin State University.

Her connection to PVAMU started before she worked as an adjunct instrutor for the College of Agriculture and Human Sciences. As the Lead Nutritonist for the Women, Infants, Children (WIC) Program located on the campus of Prairie View A & M University, she became a preceptor for the Prairie View Dietetic Internship Program for three years; assisting students in their quests to become registered dietitians. Her passion is community nutrition and program development; educating others through unique programs that are beneficial to their health and education.

She developed an even greater love for supporting student’s success and their career development and was encouraged to consider teaching on the collegiate level. She became an adjunct instructor in 2015. She is now full-time faculty (Lecturer I), academic adviser, primary advisor for the Kappa Omicron Nu Honor Society student organization, advisor for the College of Agriculture and Human Sciences (CAHS) Ambassadors, and secondary advisor for the Student Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (SAND) student organization. She also coordinates summer programs like Ag Discovery, which is aimed at targeting high school students and introducing them to the many fields of agriculture; the Research Extension Apprentice Program (REAP) which targets rising juniors and seniors to introduce them to research in the many fields of agriculture; and she assists with coordinating the Summer Bridge Jump Start Program, which is aimed at preparing incoming Freshmen on their paths to success can career development in the the College of Agriculture and Human Sciences.

She is also involved in a new program initiatve called the Motivate and Educate for Achievement (MEA) Leadership Enhancement Program in collaboration with the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff whose main goal is to prepare our undergraduate students better in the field of Agriculture at PVAMU in collaboration with the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) for the workforce and graduate school, to increase retention and graduation rates, and prepare students for entry into the workforce or graduate studies in food and nutrition, agriculture, natural resources, plant and soil sciences, animal sciences, and human sciences. 

Being at Prairie View A & M University has inspired her to return to her studies and pursue her doctoral degree. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Health Education and Promotion at Walden University, with an anticipated graduation date of January 2022. She continues to hold virtual community nutrition programs and find ways to support her local community and bring awareness to public health concerns.
