About Jackson De Carvalho

Dr. Jackson de Carvalho is a full Professor and MSW Program Director at Prairie View A&M University, where he has been a faculty member since 2009. Dr. de Carvalho has a solid background in management and over 30 years of solid experience in program development, strategic planning, and program assessment. He is proficient in grant writing, research development, and multivariate statistical analysis. Dr. de Carvalho has a master’s degree in social work, a dual Ph.D. in Social Work and in International Comparative Policy. He was born in Brazil and lived in many countries before coming to the United States over thirty years ago. Dr. de Carvalho is fluent in five languages and has the multicultural competence to communicate across cultural boundaries.
His research interests lie in the area of mental health disorders, criminal behaviors and educational achievement. In addition, he is interested in the relationship between physical, social, and economic aspects of vulnerable populations. He has collaborated actively with researchers in several disciplines of social sciences.
Dr. de Carvalho endeavors to contribute to science and the betterment of society through project implementation, research and publication as a passion that drives his personal mission and goals. He often encapsulates his late accomplishments with the following words of Robert Frost: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I- I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.
