About Jackson Battista

Jackson is originally from California. He earned his undergraduate degree in Economics and History from the University of California, Berkeley in 2015. He earned his Master’s Degree in European History, Society, and Politics in 2016 from Columbia University in NYC, where he concentrated in European Economic History. Finally, Jackson earned his PhD in Economics at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where he concentrated in Economic History, Political Economy, and Macroeconomics.

As a professor at Saint Mary’s, Jackson’s research centers on U.S. Economic History and the process of deindustrialization in the United States. His teaching focuses on bringing history back into the profession, using historical approaches in both his introductory and upper division courses. Jackson also strives to make economics an accessible discipline, by showing that economics gives us the toolset we need to solve some of the world’s most pressing problems.
