About Ira K Packer

Ira K. Packer, Ph.D. is the Co-Director of the Law and Psychiatry Program at UMass Medical School, and Director of the Massachusetts Center of Excellence for Specialty Courts. He is also the Director of the UMMS Forensic Psychology Postdoctoral Residency Program. He has over 30 years of experience as forensic psychologist, with a focus on issues related to criminal evaluations, violence risk assessment, and treatment and management of individuals with mental illness involved with the criminal justice system. He is the author of Evaluation of Criminal Responsibility (2009), which is part of the Oxford University Press Best Practices in Forensic Mental Health series. He is also co-author, with Tom Grisso, Ph.D. of the book Specialty Competencies in Forensic Psychology (Packer and Grisso, 2011, Oxford University Press).
