About Hyoil Han

Hyoil Han joined Computer Science in the College of Information Technology & Engineering at Marshall University in the fall of 2011 as an associate professor. Hyoil received her BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Korea University in her hometown, her MS degree in
Electrical Engineering from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, and her Ph.D. degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2002. Previously she worked for Samsung Electronics as a researcher and Telecommunication Network Laboratory at Korea Telecom as a member of technical staff. She also worked for LeMoyne-Owen College as an associate professor and for Drexel University as an assistant professor.
Dr. Han's research areas lie in the merging of techniques from databases and artificial intelligence, as well as the computing aspects of sciences. Specifically, she develops algorithms and systems for web semantics, text/data mining and management, biomedical and healthcare informatics, and information assurance and security in distributed computing environments. Her research focuses on developing theories and building intelligent systems to 1) understand, mine, and manage unconventional data types, and 2) integrate/interchange information securely and seamlessly from heterogeneous data sources for semantic interoperability.
Dr. Han is a member of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence and the Association for Computing Machinery, as well as the special interest groups on Knowledge, Discovery, and Data Mining; Management of Data; and Applied Computing.
She has served as a referee for more than 20 journals, including the Association for Computing Machinery's journal of Transactions on Information Systems, Information Polity, the Journal of Biomedical Informatics, and the Journal of Web Semantics.
