Received the degree of M.A. in Latin from De Paul University in 1961, an M.S. in Library Science from Catholic University, Washington, D.C. in 1963, and a Doctorate in Sacred Theology from the University of Fribourg, Fribourg, Switzerland 1963-1966.

My interests are St. Vincent de Paul, St. Louise de Marillac, the Congregation of the Mission, The Vincentian Family, The China Mission, Father Vincent Lebbe the famous Vincentian missionary in China, and the theology and vision of the Second Vatican Council.

St. Vincent de Paul influenced my life from the very beginning.  Born of Irish immigrant parents in Chicago on October 30, 1934, and raised in St. Vincent’s parish, I entered the Congregation of the Mission in 1952 and was ordained a Vincentian priest May 28, 1961.  I was sent to study at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland 1963-1966 and received the doctorate in biblical theology in 1966.   My ministry was to be in priestly formation, and eventually lay and ecumenical formation.  I taught theology and was formation director at St. Thomas Seminary in Denver 1966-1975, then Rector at Kenrick Seminary in St. Louis 1975-1978 and provincial of the Midwest Province Congregation of the Mission 1978-1987.  As part of my sabbatical (1987-1988), I went to Paris and met with Father André Dodin, who introduced me to the Way of Vincent.  When I returned to St. Thomas Seminary, I again taught theology and became deeply involved in Vincentian formation 1988-1993.  In 1993 I was missioned to the province of China on Taiwan, which included resuming our Vincentian presence in Mainland China.   Unexpectedly I was asked to be Director of the Center for International Formation (CIF) for Vincentian priests and brothers at the Vincentian Motherhouse in Paris 2003-2009.  Presently back in the States, I joined with several interested parties to develop a four-week summer program at De Paul University on ecclesial leadership for sisters and priests from China (2012- present), which was paused in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic with hopes of starting up again in 2022.
