About Huan Feng

As a coastal environmental geochemist, Professor Huan Feng has extensive experience in studying toxic metal contamination in riverine, estuarine and coastal environments and performing environment assessment. His research includes using radionuclides (such as Th-234, Be-7, Pb-210 and Cs-137) as tracers for transport and fate of contaminants in riverine and estuarine systems. Professor Feng conducts nano/micro-scale research using synchrotron radiation techniques to characterize chemical compositions and structures of the materials, and investigate concentration, distribution and speciation of trace elements in sediments, soils and plants. He is also engaged in urban coastal environmental sustainability study by integrating information and developing easily understandable predictive geochemical models pertinent to coastal management. In addition, Dr. Feng has been actively collaborating with international scholars in trace element biogeochemical cycle and contamination studies in riverine, estuarine and coastal systems.

In summary, Professor Feng’s teaching and research focus on the following three areas:
1. Radionuclides as tracers for transport and fate of sediments and associated contaminants in riverine, estuarine and marine systems
2. Riverine, estuarine and marine pollution study and environmental quality assessment
3. Application of synchrotron X-ray nano-probe technology to metal biogeochemical cycle study

Specialization
Natural radionuclides as tracers for trace metal biogeochemical cycle; Riverine, estuarine and marine environmental pollution and assessment; land-sea trace element transport; laboratory QA/QC procedures; application of synchrotron-based technology in micro-scale study of chemical speciation and concentrations of trace elements, and structural characterization and visualization of geological materials; sediment decontamination technology development.
