About Howard M Henderson

Howard Henderson is a Professor in the Barbara Jordan-Mickey Leland School of Public Affairs at Texas Southern University. His research interests include risk needs assessment, police-community relations and criminal justice program evaluation.  His recent published research has appeared in such journals as the American Medical Association Journal of Ethics, Criminal Justice Review, Journal of Ethnicity in Criminal Justice, Criminal Justice and Behavior, Race & Justice, and Criminal Justice Policy Review.  Dr. Henderson is currently working on a National Science Foundation-funded project with the Baylor College of Medicine’s Initiative on Neuroscience and Law that designed an iPAD risk assessment application that determined offender decision-making characteristics through a range of cognitive traits.  He is evaluating the Dallas County Juvenile Justice Department Diversion Male Court Program.  Howard is also leading a research team in an evaluation of the Houston Police Department Body Camera Program. He is the author of the edited More Than Race: Minority Issues in Criminal Justice and the editor of the Journal of Criminal Justice and Law Review.  Howard served on the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Multidisciplinary Advisory Board for the U.S. Department of Justice Prisoner Reentry Initiative (PRI) Grant that ended in 2010.  Before joining TSU, Dr. Henderson was an associate professor in the College of Criminal Justice at Sam Houston State University.
