About Hilary T. Seo

Hilary T. Seo is an Associate Professor and the Head of Preservation at the Iowa State University Library overseeing conservation, reformatting, mass deacidification, library binding, marking, and Digital Collections. Before joining Iowa State, she spent seven years as the Preservation Librarian at the Georgetown University Law Library. She has also worked in the preservation department at the University of Texas at Austin, and the Conservation Center at the State Historical Society of Wisconsin. Her bachelor’s degree is from the University of California, Santa Barbara in physical anthropology, her master’s degree in library science is from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and her advanced training in preservation is from the University of Texas at Austin. In addition to her Certificate of Advanced Study in Preservation Administration, she interned at the Getty Center for the History of Art and the Humanities in the book conservation lab. She has taught several workshops on book repair, library binding, preservation management, disaster preparedness and response, and the care and handling of personal collections.
