Abstract

The first fifty years of Ch'ing rule in Eastern Turkestan were, with the major exception of the revolt at Uch-Turfan, a peaceful and prosperous period. The objective of this paper is to elaborate on a few points that have so far received little or no attention by scholars, to wit, the structure and functions of the military and civilian administrations.
