Abstract

Dutch designers ore accustomed to working on land that "is not a natural given but exists by virtue of human ingenuity and technology in water management." For the Dutch the idea of "artificial landscope" is not new. It is-and always has been-the point of departure for design. As a result of this perspective, the projects depicted in The Artificial Landscape ore more than an overview of recent Dutch work in architecture, landscape architecture, and urban design. They ore also a fresh, vital body of work that can educate nations that ore comparative beginners at engaging synthetic environments.
